National Minimum Wage Rates April 2023

National minimum wage rates for April 2023 has been confirmed by The Chancellor.

Changes include:

  • For workers aged 23 and over the National Living Wage rate will be increased from £9.50 an hour to £10.42
  • The rate for workers aged 21-22 will be increased from £9.18 an hour to £10.18
  • The development rate for workers aged18-20 will be increased from £6.83 an hour to £7.49
  • The rate for 16 and 17 year olds will be increased from £4.81 an hour to £5.28
  • The rate for apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 and over in the first 12 months of their apprenticeship will be increased from £4.81 an hour to £5.28

The government has said that “the increases announced today will support the wages and living standards of low-paid workers at a time when many are feeling increased pressure from a rising cost of living…”

With many businesses also feeling the strain now, it will be more important than ever to plan ahead for the April increases.
