The Twelve Days of Christmas Day 4
Health and Safety Myth
Indoor Christmas lights need a portable appliance test (PAT) every year
Lots of companies will either waste money in the false belief they need to test their Christmas lights annually, or just don’t put them up at all, because they have not been tested in the last 12 months.
Christmas lights do not need a portable appliance test so, as long as sensible precautions, such as those included in a pre-use check of equipment to look for obvious signs of damage (no frayed or loose wiring, the plug is correctly fitted and fused, sockets are not being overloaded and any trailing wires are being managed), every workplace can switch on safely.
