New Statutory Family Leave and Sick Pay Rates Coming in 2025

The government has announced upcoming increases to statutory family leave rates, including statutory maternity pay. Family leave rates will rise to £187.18 per week, up from the current rate of £184.03 per week. These new rates will apply to employees who meet the qualifying conditions for the respective payments.

Statutory Family Leave Rates

Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) / Statutory Adoption Pay (SAP)

  • First 6 weeks: Paid at 90% of normal weekly earnings.
  • Following 33 weeks: Paid at £187.18 per week (or 90% of normal weekly earnings if this is lower).

Statutory Paternity Pay (SPP)

  • Paid at £187.18 per week (or 90% of normal weekly earnings if this is lower).

Statutory Shared Parental Pay (ShPP)

  • Paid at £187.18 per week (or 90% of normal weekly earnings if this is lower).

Statutory Parental Bereavement Pay (SPBP)

  • Paid at £187.18 per week (or 90% of normal weekly earnings if this is lower).

Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) Increase

Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) will also increase, rising from £116.75 per week to £118.75 per week.

Effective Date

These changes are scheduled to take effect in April 2025.
