Can line managers make workplace conflict worse?

A recent report from the CIPD shows that all too often line managers can be a source of conflict or make workplace conflict worse. The survey of more than 2,000 employers and staff revealed that:

  • 40% of employees who had experienced bullying and harassment at work said their line manager was responsible;
  • 32% of employees who reported experiencing workplace conflict said their manager had made the situation worse;
  • 24% of employees surveyed said serious issues arising from workplace conflict such as bullying and harassment were ignored in their organisation.

It doesn’t have to be this way –  60% of line managers in the survey reported not receiving any people management training. By ensuring that managers receive the training they need to carry out the people management functions of their role managers can become the solution to workplace issues. Knowing how to confidently, appropriately and effectively manage employees and common HR issues is key.

Properly Equip Your Managers

Your managers are on the frontline when it comes to employee matters so it’s important that they are equipped with the tools they need to get the job done – that means up to date knowledge of how to safely handle common and often challenging HR issues. Whether someone is an experienced manager or is new to the role, targeted and effective management training is one of the most valuable investments an organisation can make.

Kingfisher Professional Services Ltd offers a wide range of management training packages that can be tailored to meet your organisation’s needs. Our management training packages are:

  • Cost effective
  • Written and delivered by employment law experts you can trust
  • Praised by managers and employers for being practical, engaging and effective. Through interactive workbooks, case-studies and activities your managers have the opportunity to develop their skills and test their learning
