The Chancellor has announced that the qualifying age for the national living wage rate will be reduced from 25 to 23 from 1st April 2021. There will also be an increase to national minimum wage rates, including that of the National Living Wage.

The new hourly rates from 1st April 2021 will be:

  • National Living Wage (workers aged 23 and above): £8.91
  • 21-22 year olds: £8.36
  • 18 – 20 year olds: £6.56
  • 16 – 17 year olds: £4.62
  • Apprentice rate: £4.30

It’s important that employers are aware of these developments and effectively plan for them to ensure compliance in their organisation.
